The Convention People’s Party and Tourism Development: A Thought
A common characteristic of post-colonial governments in Ghana, the ConventionPeople’s Party (CPP) alike, were to formulate economic plans in order to diversifytheir economy and to satisfy the clamours for development. The idea is to provideinfrastructure, social and economic prosperity for Ghanaians. The recognition ofand the Ghanaian development of tourism thus, became a new method of economicdiversification for post-colonial governments. This paper takes a critical look at thecontribution of the CPP Government towards the growth of the tourism in Ghana. Ittakes a look at the attitudes and policies of the government focusing on her roleas an agent for tourism development; the creation of conducive environment fortourism to flourish, the involvement of the private sector, both foreign and local, andthe provision of tourism infrastructure. In the final analysis, an assessment is madeof the CPP Government’s
contribution towards tourism development.
